This is a two man team event with the field split in half by course handicaps. Teams will feature one 'A' player and one 'B' player. Teams will be Blind Draw (random) by the Golf Genius software with some adjustments to keep team handicaps somewhat equal (i.e., the lowest handicap 'A' player cannot play with the lowest handicap 'B' player). You will play in the same group as your assigned partner. You may indicate your preference for other players in your group by sending a portal message or emailing wmgateetimes@gmail.com.

Gross and Net Overall Payouts. 

This is a Two Man Best Ball "fun" event.  The tees will be set at the forward-most area to encourage players to go for greens and record more birdies.  Payouts are for Gross and Net.

• Front 9: Modified Alternate Shot (both hit tee sheets, pick the best and alternate shot until the ball is holed)
• Back 9: Best Ball

 

Round 2 (Sunday):

• Front 9: Chapman (both hit tee shots, then both hit teammates ball for 2nd shot. Pick the best ball after 2nd shots are hit, and alternate shot until the ball is holed)
• Back 9: 2-Man Scramble

Sunday Tee Times based on leaderboard after Saturday. 1st and 2nd Gross will be in final pairing Sunday, 1st and 2nd Net will be in the penultimate pairing and so forth.

This event is an individual event competed at both GROSS and NET. It encourages golfers to accumulate points based on the following score chart:

 

DOUBLE EAGLE:  16 points

EAGLE                    8 points

BIRDIE                    4 points

PAR                         2 points

BOGEY                   1 point

DOUBLE BOGEY+ 0 points

Golfers earn points for their scores on each hole, and the aim of the game is accumulating enough points to beat your pre-set goal.

 

Pre-set goal = 36 - Course Handicap (example, a 10 handicap has a Quota of 26).

 

Point allocations (for gross scores):

 

• Bogey - 1point
• Par - 2 points
• Birdie - 3 points
• Eagle - 4 points
• Double Eagle - 5 points

 

The winner is the golfer who exceeds her quota by the most. If the golfer whose quota was 26 finishes at 30, he is +4. If the golfer whose quota was 12 finishes at 17, he is +5.

Team Best Ball Match Play Single Elimination Tournament

 

The Wintonbury Men’s Golf Association sponsors a season-long Bracket 4-Ball Tournament. It is a net tournament using 90% of each player’s handicap. All players will stroke off the lowest handicap player in the foursome. It is a match play, best ball tournament. The lowest single net score of 1 player wins the hole. In all matches before the Final, the winner of a match that is tied after 18 holes will be determined based on which team won the most holes of the last nine, the last six, then the last three. If that fails to determine a winner, the last team to win a hole will be declared the winner. 

 

1. Teammates must have course handicaps (CH) within 9 strokes of each other.
   1. If one teammate has a CH of 15, and the other has a CH of 3, the first player’s CH will be adjusted to 12, and then they will both play to 90% of those numbers. This means the maximum differential between partners during the match is 8 strokes.
2. Course Handicaps for all matches will be based on the index not longer than 72 hours from scheduled match.

 

Entrance fee is $50.00 per team. WMGA will invoice one member of each team after registration closes.

 

Pairings:

• This year’s Fourball tournament will be made up of 1 flight with a maximum of 32 teams
• Each team MUST include at least one WMGA member
• Defending champion team will be given priority “seeding”
• A random drawing of pairings and all remaining “seeds” will be held on Saturday, May 4th, at WHGC at 1:00PM EDT.

 

Prize money will be based on overall number of participants

Scheduling of Matches:

Matches may be scheduled at any time or during any of the regular WMGA events. To schedule a match please send an email to wmgateetimes@gmail.com. If you plan to play the match during a regularly scheduled WMGA event, you may also indicate your intention in a portal message when you register for that WMGA event. If your match is scheduled outside of a WMGA event, teams are responsible for booking their own tee times and regular green’s fees apply. Please make every effort to schedule your match as early as possible. There is a deadline date pertaining to the completion of each round every month. If neither team can schedule their match within the approved time frame, a winner will be decided by the flip of a coin. Don’t be caught short or take the risk of bad weather. Schedule your match early!

 

• 1st Round matches are to be completed no later than June 9th  
• 2nd Round matches are to be completed no later than July 21st
• 3rd Round matches are to be completed no later than September 1st  
• 4th Round matches (semifinals) are to be completed no later than September 22nd
• 5th Round matches (final) are to be completed no later than October 20th (Ideally, the final match will take place as part of the "Year End" event on October 20.)

 

A substitute will be allowed 1 time only for any given team. Substitutes that are current members of the WMGA will be subject to normal handicap rules. Substitute players outside of the WMGA will play at 50% of their handicap.

There are some important choices related to the Saturday, June 15, event. As is tradition, this is a weekend that WMGA allows members to bring GUESTS. Because many potential guests may not have handicaps, we offer two events:

 

The PRIMARY event is a two-person team BEST-BALL event. Each player on the team plays their own ball until holed. The best individual score (gross and net) made on the hole is posted as the team's score. Sign up as a team or you can be matched up by the WMGA.

 

The SECONDARY event is a two-person SCRAMBLE event. Each player on a team hits a shot, then the teammates pick the position they want to play from and repeat the procedure until the ball is holed. The team's GROSS score on each hole is posted as the team score.

 

If you want to play the PRIMARY event, you simply need to register.

 

If you want to play the SECONDARY event, you need to register AND indicate your preference for this event either in a "portal message" or an email to wmgateetimes@gmail.com.

This is a two-person Scramble event.

This is Match Play Half the Field. Like in the past, this will be 1 v 1, hole-by-hole with each winner receiving a payout (payout is split if match ends tied).

 

This round DOES NOT count for Club Championship Weekend Points or Ringers.
